About
water+
The
water+® system is a step in a new direction for an energy system
that can change the way we heat and cool our homes and businesses to
dramatically reduce energy costs and protect the environment.
What
is water+?
Just below the surface of nearly every urban and suburban home, commercial
building, institution or school lies an abundant source of clean, renewable,
and free energy. The revolutionary water+ system, transports this thermal
energy stored in the earth to homes and buildings via a water utility
main to provide the finest in heating and cooling comfort with low operating
costs.
How
does it work?
Instead of using conventional geothermal earth loops, the utilitys
water main acts as the heat source and heat sink for geothermal units.
Water from the main is supplied to the geothermal heat pump(s) located
within the building. Using this source, the geothermal unitswhich
are up four times more efficient than conventional heating and cooling
systemsprovide total heating and cooling comfort throughout the
building at a fraction of the cost of ordinary HVAC systems.
After
passing through the geothermal unit(s), the water is returned to the
water+ line and transported to the processing plant, existing substation
or a station built for this purpose. There it is tested and returned
to the final stage of treatment before being pumped back out into the
main. Water passing through the system is altered in no way except for
a slight temperature change as it passes through the unit. As the water
returns to the treatment plant or substation, the earth surrounding
the line absorbs the difference in temperature, thus the water becomes
a 100% renewable source of energy.
Increased
revenue and bigger savings.
The water utility charges the building owner a flat fee (monthly or
yearly) or a fee per each 1000 gallons of water used by the system.
The fee covers the pumping costs, treatment costs and profit for the
utility. The profit for this service is normally not regulated, so it
can be a great source of income for the utility while providing a very
welcome advantage to the building owner. The building owner also pays
the cost of the water+ line either outright or through a monthly charge.
The
savings to the building owner are massive. The system operates at 16-20
EER versus 9-10 EER for conventional heating and cooling. It also eliminates
the need for roof penetrations, cooling towers, boilers, expensive interior
piping (associated with 4-pipe systems) and associated maintenance.
The equipment is less costly and has an average life expectancy of over
20 years versus 12 years for conventional outdoor units, according to
reports issued by the Air Conditioning Refrigeration Institute (ARI).
